Nouveau Fest
After a decade of hosting its annual Harvest Festival, Soldier Creek Winery is introducing something new this year:
Nouveau Fest. Slated for November 23rd from 1-6 PM, the festival will celebrate the debut of the winery’s first Nouveau wine, Prairie Nouveau.
But what exactly does “Nouveau” mean? In French, “nouveau” translates to “new,” and a Nouveau wine is just that: a wine harvested and fermented this season, ready for immediate enjoyment. Unlike traditional wines, which require months or even years of aging, a Nouveau wine is light, fresh, and designed for early consumption.
Soldier Creek’s Prairie Nouveau is made using a unique fermentation method called “carbonic maceration,” which captures the vibrant flavors of the grapes before they are pressed. This new approach speeds up the winemaking process by 6-12 months, allowing the wine to reach consumers faster.
Another exciting feature of the Nouveau Fest is the label design. In true Beaujolais Nouveau fashion, Prairie Nouveau will feature a brand-new work of art on its label each year. Soldier Creek Winery plans to hold future contests for the label design, inviting local artists to contribute.
